Know your rights as a Malaysian citizen

10 12 2007

When? 8 December 2007
Where? Pahang room, Shangri-la hotel KL

In conjunction with the Human Rights Day and the public rallies that have been in the headlines recently, we decided that it was time to get acquainted with what exactly Human and Citizen Rights mean. Let’s face it, many Malaysians are not aware of their rights as a Malaysian citizen and what to do in certain situations – say being stopped by the law enforcement.

We were very fortunate to have two experts on this topic – local Human Rights Activists and Bar Council lawyers, Mr Richard Wee and En. Fahri Azzat to present us with a very informative and educational talk. These lawyers are also founders of “TANGKAP – Tindakan ANti penyalahGunaan KuasA Polis” and are also those responsible for publishing the Red Book or Buku Merah which provides valuable information about Malaysian human rights when faced with the Royal Malaysian Police.

And if you think this is info you should only know if say, you’re planning on getting involved in some sort of criminal activity, think again. Any average joe/jane walking down the street could be stopped by the police if you happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time as we found out.
