Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur Diraja – 79th Installation Banquet

2 07 2006

Beautiful ladies in gorgeous evening wear and handsomely dressed men in fine suits graced the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur Diraja’s 79th Installation Banquet. Held at Shangril-la on the 1st of July 2006, the event was one of gLitZ and gLaMouR !!!

Themed, Lead the Way, the ballroom was decorated with lovely colorful ribbons and flowers. As always, we, rotaractors were assigned to man the registration counter, informing the guest on which table to sit at.

The event started at around 8.00pm when the guest of honour, Y.B Dato Seri Haji Azmi Bin Khalid arrived. We entered the hall, sat at our assigned tables and pretended to be on our best behavior. After a speech and a few toasts’, dinner was served. It was not your regular buffet dinner but instead we feasted on “beautiful food”. First, the “Flower Salad” then Bread & Soup and finally the main course, which was Chicken. It was fine dining by the way… so there were quite a number of utensils on the table ( big fork, small fork, blunt knife, sharp knife)… but we took our queue from our fine dining connoisseur for the night , Michael.(“Move Outside-In”, he says).

Half way through dinner, 3 of us (Kavita, Lai Peng & I), were ushered through the kitchen to the backstage where we would perform our task as the “Dulang Girls” during the Installation ceremony. Incoming President, David Teh picked up the regalia’s as he installed his board:-

President : Rtn David Teh

After the installation, several Rotarians from other clubs exchanged gifts with President David Teh. The event went smoothly (FYI, No one fell of the stage !!!), the entertainment was soothing (blues and jazz) and for us rotaractors, the night ended with the mandatory “photo” session.
